The FINDING DIRECTION Blanket was published during the week of my second year designer anniversary – my designerversary – August 2023.
It was aptly named not only because of its theme, a nautical compass, but also because the concept of finding direction has a personal meaning for me.
For years I had felt that I was not good enough to crochet, let alone design crochet patterns. I had been crocheting since I was a little girl, but I still felt that I was lacking.
In terms of needlearts, crochet was the first skill I learnt. I learnt to knit soon after but it was cross stitching, which I learnt as an adult, which had me hooked from my early twenties until my mid forties.
Only once it became to hard to see those holes in the fine fabric which I loved so much – 28 count Lugana – did I return to crochet – my first skill and actually, my first love.
I have since created many items and even held regular classes for a while until I came across interlocking crochet, in 2021. I fell inlove and into designing, almost immediately. I started my first design on 1 August 2021 and published it 5 days later – 6 August. I have not done anything else since. As I am typing this, I have 70 published designs on Ravelry.
It was only once I started designing that I found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I LOVE what I do and the fact that I get to do it, is a great blessing.
I have FOUND MY DIRECTION. This pattern is a celebration of that moment!
